Custom Audiences

As we mentioned earlier, custom audiences allow brands to reconnect with known users, or exclude them in order to reach new audiences.

Advertisers can upload a list of emails and/or mobile ad IDs (MAIDs) into Reddits advertising user interface in order to create custom audiences. These custom audiences can be included or excluded, depending on campaign objectives.

(Custom audiences are only available for managed brands.)

  • Keyword Exclusion:

Keyword exclusion isn’t a type of segmentation in the traditional sense. Advertisers can create layers to exclude certain audiences from viewing certain ads.

It’s important to keep in mind that keyword exclusion only applies to post headlines, and does not apply to images, videos, or display ads.

How Does It Work?

Reddit automatically stops ads from being shown in cases where keywords that are not considered brand-safe appear (approximately 4,000 words are subject to exclusion), and advertisers can add a custom list of keywords to exclude.

-Location Exclusion:

This allows you to block ads from being shown in certain locations.

For example, if an advertiser is directing their advertising at “United States,” their ad will only be shown to users located in the United States. Furthermore, if the ad is directed at “United States” and utilizes geoexclusion directed at “California,” their ad will only be shown to people located in the US who are not located in California.
