Introduction to Facebook Meta

Facebook is a social network designed to allow people to connect and share information, news, and audiovisual content with friends and family. It is one of the largest and most popular social platforms today.

There are several types of users who can register on Facebook: individuals, companies, or big brands. The platform allows them to be in contact with each other, and enables content sharing.

Facebook is often used for:

  • Posting moment-to-moment moods or thoughts.
  • Uploading photos or albums, to share with friends and contacts.
  • Posting interesting news.
  • Uploading videos for other users to see.
  • Making live and direct videos.
  • Promoting a brand or service
  • Joining interest groups

Its main function, therefore, is to connect users or put people in contact so that they can share information about themselves, their tastes, their experiences, and other updates about their day-to-day life.

Using Facebook is simple: once you have registered and created your personal profile, you can start interacting with friends and family.

Adding “friends” is simple — you search for them by their first and last name (if they have registered with their real data) in the search bar located at the top of the screen.

Once you enter a name, the users who match your search will appear and you can send a friend request to contact the desired user, by clicking on the “Add Friend” button.

Facebook Groups

There are 3 different types of Facebook groups:

  • Open/Public Groups: no authorization is required to join this type of group; you can find the group using the search feature, and can even invite other users to participate in the group. All content in this type of group is completely public, and can be seen by anyone, regardless of whether or not they have joined the group.
  • Private/Closed Groups: these groups can be found using a search, but to join the group or see the group’s content, you must be accepted by an administrator. Before being accepted, you will be able to see the group description, but will not have access to the group’s posts.
  • Secret Groups: this type of group does not show up in a search. To participate in it, an administrator or member of the secret group can invite you to access it. Content from this type of group cannot be shared or disseminated on the platform.

Other Features:

In addition to those mentioned above, here are some other interesting Facebook features to explore:

  • Games: these can be played alone, or users can interact with their contacts within the game platform.
  • Events: users can stay up-to-date on events taking place nearby them, and see events that their friends have expressed interest in. Users can express interest in an event through buttons allowing them to indicate: “I am interested” or “I will attend.”
  • Jobs: Facebook has recently included a job section where users can not only see available job offers, but can also post their own.
  • Payments: a “Wallapop” style payment portal is now available, allowing users to manage payments via the platform.
  • Recommendations: users can request recommendations for places, restaurants, shops, or hotels.

Advertising on Facebook

If your company’s target audience is active on Facebook, then belonging to this platform is crucial.

The network platform offers spaces called Facebook Business and Facebook Ads Manager, where you can create and manage paid advertising that will circulate on both Facebook and Instagram (another of the group’s companies). Here you can select different types of ad formats that will vary depending on where and when you want them to appear.

The platform also allows the advertising audience to be segmented very precisely, achieving a much more specific impact.
